29th November 2009 - United we stand, united we fall |
The spread of Novembers (lack of) excitement on and off the pitch is at an end and we are now into a massive month for fans and players alike. While Novembers football and support left a lot to be desired, the festive month should provide more excitement with no less than 4 matches versus Linfield and Portadown to look forward to.
Admittedly, Legion 1882 have had a very quiet month, sorting internal issues that unfortunately come with an improving reputation but be assured that planning for the coming month is well underway and now we ask fans to put that little of extra effort into roaring the team on. Matchdays of late have become bore fests with the increasing groan and moan, hopefully that can change. We hope that the grounds we visit home and away will become just that bit noisier for the next 6 matches. Pass that, and we can build on it, improve and push on for the final stretch that saw the team covered in glory in May.
Linfield at the Oval, Dungannon at the Oval, Institute at Drumahoe, Linfield at Windsor, Newry at the Oval, Linfield at the Oval again and to round of the year, a trip to Shamrock Park against Portadown that will hopefully capture the passion that made the August match-up iconic. 7 games to define our season, prove our mettle that we can be the first Glentoran team in over 40 years, only the 3rd in history, to retain the title and maybe throw in another trophy or two for good measure. We have the squad, we have the potential to do it, to win it.
We as supporters, they as footballers are charged with the duty of becoming champions again. The long road is getting shorter, we are half way there. Mistakes from the first half of the season on and off the pitch can be rectified. Time to test the character and resilience of this football club and prove our worth as the supporters and players of the badge, colours, stadium and club we would give so much for. This is it. For the red, green and black that we bleed, we have to give it everything. To glory or to failure, united we stand, united we fall.

22nd November 2009 - Michael Halliday Pro Am darts tournament |
Several Legion 1882 members thoroughly enjoyed themselves on another night out, this time at the park avenue hotel for the 1st ever darts tournament. The scene, atmosphere and general friendliness of those heavily involved was second to nothing. To see the craic and the players enjoying themselves socially was a joy to behold after a difficult few weeks and special thanks go to Mark, Ellie and Michael, without whom, the night wouldn't have been possible. Fans and players alike, they are a credit to Glentoran in these situations.
We hope it wont be the last darts do, seeing costumes/entrances like that is priceless.

18th November 2009 - Davy McKeag |
Many Legion 1882 members attended the "night for Davy" do at the Westbourne on Saturday night to pay tribute to Davy McKeag who sadly passed away last year. I didn't know Davy personally but many members did and they all paid their respects. Legion 1882 would like to thank Quarry GSC for organising an excellent night, one that Davy would have been proud of. No matter how many fans Glentoran FC have, each one is as important as the next and when one passes on we lose a soldier, leaving the rest of us to fight that extra bit harder on the frontline. Supporters will come and go, a new generation will emerge and the late generation will pass on. None will be forgotten and the sizeable turnout proves it.
This next win is for you Davy

9th November 2009 - Glenavon away |
Confidence is at an all time low and the latest disaster has only added to the misery of fans and players alike. They like us are human and are sure as hell hurting. Glentoran fans have a reputation of being moans and it has been more than justified lately. Tonight, we all have to get together and scream for the bunch of players who's confidence has been stripped apart and baring all in the front lines. No abuse, no gurning, no expectations for a clean bill of perfect passes, moves and performances; it wont happen. What will happen is that players will react to those who make them famous in 2 ways; negatively, resulting in disaster and vocal discontent or positively, kick starting the season and letting our boys know we have their back in any situation and that we will be there rain hail or shine.
Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno.

1st November 2009 - Light at the end of the tunnel? |
Another day another comeback but with a difference. This time we did it with a bit of flair and the footballing signs on the pitch and lineup decisions off the pitch appear to be improving. Only one way to find out though, Tuesday night & more football in the shape of the Setanta Sports Cup.
Again, lets help the lads. We're in this together.
